the culture of the Plains Indians.)

                Adventures of a boy in Vietnam-biographical.  Tells about
life in his                     village in VietNam.  Each chapter can
stand alone;  deals with family,                        animals,
neighbors, ets.  (Jean Rusting gives this one high praise.)

 How about "Benjamin and Tulip" By Rosemary Wells? They end up
spitting watermelon seeds at each other -- it's one of my favorite picture
books.
