Kaffir Boy Censorship

We are having a censorship problem with a small group of very conservative
people who would like this book eliminated from our high school setting.  A
formal complaint has been filed and a  task force was  formed to review the
book.  The recommendation from the task force was to retain the book with a
clause that  students of parents who object to the material would be given
alternative reading.  Unfortunately, these people who are fighting this were
at the board meeting when the final decision was to be made by the school
board.  They caused enough of a disturbance  for the board to table the
decision until a further date.

I know that this book has credentials a mile long.  I am looking for any
senior high schools who have this book in their media center  or are using it
as part of the curriculum.   We have been using it in a junior contemporary
lit. class.   I would also like to hear from anyone who has had a similar
censorship problem with this title.
