I wrote the following when I proposed a Cat in the Hat celebration to the faculty. We're having a Dr. Seuss/Cat in the Hat Day on March 27. (Not a significant Dr. Seuss date - it's just when we can fit it in.) Feel free to use the poem, but give credit to our fabulous listserv. It's not just a cat but a cat in a hat. How can we not decide to celebrate that? If we have a party for a 40 year old cat, our sweet little children when he's a hundred or more may remember the fun some sixty years before. The Cat and Horton and even the Who Thing 1 and Thing 2 and yes, Cindy-Lou Do you think they all know everyone in the books? I think we'll see some pretty surprised looks. Let's wear our hats, good or bad hair day, Eat green eggs and ham (well at least they're not gray). We know that the kids really love all this stuff And just in case they don't read enough Perhaps a brush with ol' Dr. Seuss will bring some around, he, she, or they, to love to read each and every day.
