Hello Friends! Wow! I'm overwhelmed and so thankful to all who took the time to reply to my question about whether or not to give Accelerated Reader books a special place. I also got lots of great information and help! Thanks to all! Here's a brief listing of the responses I got: 1. About two-thirds (or more) of those who replied said that they do not put AR books in a special spot. It gets too complicated, and takes up too much space. Also, most people want kids to be able to use location skills to find the books. They also want kids to read other books besides just the AR books. Nearly everyone said that they marked the books on the spine with a colored dot. Some put the grade level on the dot and others just used different colored dots for each level. 2. Many people put a label on the inside of the book giving its point value, RL, and test #. Some people said they did not want to label the book with the point # as it stressed points too much. 3. One person suggested limited the AR book checkout to one per student, so more kids could get their hands on the AR books. 4. Most said they made lists of the AR books by title and by author, and put this out for students to use. If they are automated, most suggested making a tag in the MARC record somehow stating that it is an AR book, so the kids can look them up in this way, also. 5. Some suggested giving the list to the Public Library also, for their support. Thanks again to all who replied! I may have more questions one of these days!
