Our speech pathologist just asked me to put together a reading list (15-20
items) of materials for an eighth grader (girl) who is reading on a 3rd/4th
grade level. Limited English vocabulary leads to comprehension problems.
She just can and did read Number the Stars, but her actual comprehension of
the events/story was marginal.

I suggested that picture/photograph books or non-fiction with lots of visual
prompts might be appropriate, as well as some fiction with age-appropriate
story lines.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? What worked well for you? Our
speech teacher will be working with her some of the time, but much of it
would be for independent reading -- and she does love to read. TIA --
