Target: Languages in US

I was speaking with a friend today who has been asked to write a book about
a group of multi-cultural kids in a US setting. We began discussing what
languages to use. Of course, American, Spanish (Mexican) and Japanese came
to mind.

What languages other than English are prevalent in your area?? TIA
