Cataloging

I am taking a class at Radford University in Radford, VA. The class is
about cataloging and I was wondering what type of cataloging you fellow
librarians used?  Or do you have or purchase your books already
cataloged?  Do you need a separate person to just perform specific
catalog duties if your library is not automated?  Your help with these
questions would be extremely helpful!!!! Thanks!
