Hi LM_NETTERS - I have a friend who has been asked to consult on the establishment (layout, furnishings, technology, collection -- the whole thing inside the walls!) of a new high school library being built on a First Nations' (Native) reserve in Canada. We have basic information on library establishment, native literature, and technology, but we want to know what special considerations, opportunities and concerns those of you with experience in serving First Nations' teenagers and teachers might share with us. We want to be sensitive to cultural issues, and offer the best possible suggestions to the school administration, who are working so well with us but are looking to us for a great deal of leadership. TIA - Kaye BTW - I would be interested in hearing from you if you are a library media specialist (or teacher-librarian in Canada, of course!) working in a First Nations' or Native American school -- whether or not you were involved in building a school/library. I'd appreciate having a few folks I could ask questions of as the project unfolds! Thanks again! ------------------------------- Kaye Steward Teacher Librarian Bellerose Composite High School 49 Giroux Road St.Albert, Alberta Canada T8N 1M8 (403)460-8490 -------------------------------
