Thanks to everyone who replied to my request. Here are the results. What
a great listserv!!

Chris Van Allsburg has done illustrations in a great variety of media.
I often use his books to show students how one author/illustrator can
use different techniques to convey a mood or enhance the story setting
in a picture book. Steptoe also used a variety of media: I used "The
Story of Jumping Mouse" and "Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters" when teaching
about illustrations. Students couldn't believe that he created the
beautiful illustrations in Jumping Mouse.

I'm at home and of course don't remember everything I just used...
Here are a few titles.
Cut paper illustrations: Wisnieski books, The
paper crane by Molly
Bangs, The Long silk strand by ??, Seven Blind Mice has some cut paper
Collage: Smoky Night by Eve Bunting
Denise Fleming illustrations are hand formed sheets of paper

I have the 1994 ed. of The Newbery and Caldecott Awards from ALA. In this
book on page 111 is a chapter titled "The media used in Caldecott picture
books: notes toward a definitive list." This chapter lists the books by
year and the type of illustration technique used (pen and ink, lithograph,
etc.). It was reprinted (with changes) from Journal of Youth Services in
Libraries (Winter 1988). Hope this helps.

_Once a mouse : a fable cut in wood_ by Marcia Brown.
_Song and Dance Man_ by Karen Ackerman is done in colored pencil.
_How many days to America_ by Eve Bunting is done in crayon.
I'd be interested in a hit. In the past, I've done a unit with second
graders about the Caldecott Medal and different types of illustrating
techniques in general. Some of the reviews in Wilson's _Children's
Catalog_ indicate the medium used for illustrations.
        Good luck!
