---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Fri, 31 Oct 1997 11:11:50 -0500 (EST) From: pchs_st_kf@noeca.ohio.gov To: oelma-l@K12.MEC.OHIO.GOV Subject: Re: Certification In regards to this topic of discussion, I render the following for digestion: I went through all my undergraduate study with the intention of being a teacher and a media specialist. I had the same classes as those who were pursuing a subject area teaching certification. I received my Bachelor's in both media and another area along with certification in those areas. Needless to say, there are some in the library media field who choose not to recognize the fact that there were other Universities which had certification programs such as the University of Toledo. When I went through their program, it was a state certified program. Those individuals in our field who earned their library of science degrees, somehow feel that we did not receive the proper certification and were not recognized by the state. I would have to agree, that those college professors who have had no classroom experience other than the college and preach theory, do not have a handle as to how the real world in education functions. It is wonderful to see that many colleges and universities are requiring that new professors have time in elementary or secondary arenas. These individuals can definately speak from experience. Whether it is and MLS program or an Educational Media program, the end result is service. We are to help guide individuals in what ever capacity we can to fullfill their needs.
