In the interest of encouraging recreational reading at my high school I plan on building up my paperback collection this year. Should I buy only what kids like to read i.e. Stephen King or try to encourage them to read the award winners and titles from ALA Best Books for Young Adults? What adult fiction authors do you feel are valid to include into a high school paperback collection? Thoughts on the inclusion of the following adult authors would be appreciated. Stephen King -- (every title I buy seems to disappear!) Tom Clancy Romance Authors such as Roberts, Dailey and Steele Ken Follett Sue Grafton Mary Higgins Clark Frederick Forsyth Michael Crichton W.E.B. Griffin Jonathan Kellerman John Grisham Maeve Binchey Dean Koontz (these walk too) Robin Cook John Saul Robert Ludlum Len Deighton Barbara Taylor Bradford Larry McMurtry Clive Cussler Anne Rice John LaCarre Do you buy titles by V.C. Andrews, Christopher Pike and the like? Do you try to keep up with the series paperbacks? Fantasy series seem to go on forever. Any comments or advice would be appreciated. Gail M.
