TARGET: Preparing a book budget for new library

Hi Friends,

I am preparing a budget for a new library in a Kindergarten/Grade 1
school.  The enrollment is projected to be approximately 320 students.
My question: Are there any guidelines regarding the number of books to
start up a new library collection?  My plan is to ask for 5,000 volumes.
Using $16.00 as the cost of the average book, the book budget I will ask
for would be $80,000.    Please respond with suggestions and any
experiences you have had.

If many people respond to me, I will post a HIT on the topic and share
it with everyone on LM_NET.
