I read "The Invisible Librarian" and was inspired to search the net for school technology plans which included any mention of the role of libraries or media centers. I couldn't find many. Some sites did suggest the presence of a librarian or media specialist on the district technology team. My next step was to e-mail the home page site (I sent two) and to request a response to my message. (If anyone responds, I will share.) My message went something like this... How can school districts build technology infrastructures without including the role of the library or media center in its deliberations? Is the center the most overlooked, forgotten tool districts have in place to provide modeling and direct application for technology? And, this resource can provide timely, full access for all learners (staff and students). This resource houses all the software, hardware, print and electronic information needed for effective learning. This resource catalogs all resources. This resource is staffed with information specialists... Have I overlooked something? What an impact our membership would have if we could all choose a common day to find just one site and send a message. What do you think? Please help.
