SEC: books on abusive conditions

A teacher approached me with a request.  He was looking for fiction with a
female main character living in abusive conditions.  (I believe he suspects
something with one of his students but there isn't enough evidence to
report it.)   Does anyone have any suggestions for books suitable for an
eighth grader?
