She then informed me that she just ignores the Dewey number and places all like books together.....all dog books together, all rabbit books together, all >bear books together, etc. I didn't really know what to say to her, although >I wanted to yell out in pain. Does anyone else do this in their library??? > As far as I can see the benefits of this type of practive would be >outweighed by the problems, but I wanted some of your input.....please!!! Yes, I follow this practice to some extent. In my elementary school it seems a waste of time to continually put the heavily used sections in strict order. I try to keep all 599.2's together, etc. In the 796's, as long as all the books on a certain sport are together, I don't worry about the exact order. No one seems to have any problem locating what they want. However, I do try to be a little more careful at inventory time.
