Dear Ones, I love being a librarian, and the school where I am is about 9 on a scale of 10. But ... can I complain a little? Even though I am forty-something, I need a bit of mothering/fathering I guess. I have tried for 13 yrs. to get makeup tests taken out of the library at my small private school. (They used to assign detentions for fifth through eighth grades in there. I won half the battle; only 5th and sixth graders come for fifteen minutes to a detention held in the library but not run by me.) Makeup tests have got me down. There is an official time for supervised tests and a teacher is in charge, but if a student can't make this he can come almost anytime and ask me for his test or quiz. I do not supervise them -- well, only slightly... It's still a pain. They interrupt me from lib. duties and work, cheating goes on, and some teachers are very presumptious about this, not asking but telling me....A makeup folder is kept in the library. I won't bore you with more details. Any busy librarian gets the picture. What can I do? How is testing after the fact handled at your school? What do you think? HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU ALL.
