We have the problem with students teasing a classmate who is dyslexic, and a teacher requested books written by a dyslexic. Thanks all who replied. The following authors were reported as being dyslexic: Patricia Polacco, who writes about dyslexia in her picture book THE BEE TREE, and in her biography, FIRETALKING. I was told she also discusses this in the Reading Rainbow segment featuring her book RECHENKA'S EGGS. Dave Sargent, author of WHITE THUNDER and others Piers Anthony, sci fi author, who wrote of his dyslexia in his autobio, BIOGRAPHY OF AN OGRE Hans Christian Andersen probably suffered from dyslexia, though the diagnosis was not possible at that time Helen Lester, who discusses her disability in her book AUTHOR: A TRUE STORY Not authors, but good to use for role models, are these dyslexics: Whoopi Goldberg, Greg Louganis, and Steven Spielberg BTW, Avi and Peter Catalanotto were mentioned as being dysgraphic. Peter is a prolific illustrator and now author of books for elementary, including ALL I SEE (Rylant), DYLAN'S DAY OUT, and others.
