I knew there was something else: My 20 donated Macs included one Quadra 650 with System 7.5 and a Centris 650 with 7.5. We (faculty) were informed recently that the school now has internet access. (Don't ask why this was a surprise to me too--you don't need to know the politics.:-() So, my question: the classrooms, library, and computer lab all have phone jacks from the New York Wired project of September 1996. These are now supposedly active. What do I need to get things going with either of the above-named computers? All of my 'Net experience has been with Netscap e and PCs. I read the messages about Macs, but they have had no meaning for me when I have no equipment but the computers. I brought in my 2400 modem from home, but couldn't get a dial tone. The phone cable I use at home has a smaller connector than the box in school. Can I get the correct cable and a connector that would join the two cables? Are you still following me here? All I wanted to do was test the connection with my VAX account to show my students Internet access without pictures. Then, what else do I need if I'm to use the ISP connection we supposedly have? I actually called that same provider (our local cable company) once to ask what I'm asking you now, but I want to hear it from Mac users. I was told I would need Apple's Internet Explorer Kit and at least a 9600 baud modem. Do I? It's time to leave this job--my only true Internet access point, but still with mail via the VAX--I'm always grateful for the advice I hear from you. Thanks for whatever.
