Just such information about countries is what we in Texas have been
battling for. Our TENET site <http://www.tenet.edu> has been furnishing
us with links to our TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills)
requirements. If you can access that site (don't know if you can since
you aren't in Texas), click on RESOURCES on the home page, then go to
HALLS OF ACADEMIA, then click on HALLS OF GEOGRAPHY

Scroll down to Countries of the World below the Geography section.

A message on LMNet earlier this year listed this site as having=20
information on each country -

 http://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/pubs.html

The instructions were to select "1996 Fact Book" and then select the=20
appropriate country.
I hope this works for you, I haven't personally tried it.=20
Good luck

You might want to get the most recent edition of "The Internet Yellow
Pages," by Harley Hahn (Osborn McGraw-Hill). It has a section on World
Cultures that should be very helpful. (I think that EVERY library =
should
have it.)

I would recommend Excite's City.Net=20
http://www.city.net=20
then from within each countries site you will get access to the CIA
World Factbook
http://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/nsolo/wfb-all.htm

Here is a site that may interest you...

You can search the world by individual countries or by regions.=20
