Our district is currently examing going to a 9-2 schedule for school year 1998-1999. This is nine weeks on with two weeks off with school starting early in August with two 9 week "quarters" completed by Winter Break. We currently operate on a traditional seven period day with first semester out at Winter Break and the second semester completed by Memorial Day Weekend. I am familiar with elementary schools who use this. Are any secondary schools? If so, what are the advantages and/or disadvantages, esepcially in the areas of student learning/retention and scheduling.
