Sorry this took so long to compile. Fiction titles: Mr. Popper's Penguins - Atwater (OK - I know this is pushing concept, but the teacher and I included this because it might appeal to those with a lower reading level and it does involve climate) Titanic - Boning (This one in our Longfellow School fiction collection - I haven't read it but the kids like to check it out a lot) Julie - George Julie of the Wolves - Geroge Water Sky - George Toughboy and Sister - Hill Far North - Hobbs Frozen Fire - Houston Ice Swords - Houston White Archer - Houston Wild Trek - Kjelgaard Miss Pickerell Goes to the Arctic - MacGregor Snow Treasure - McSwigan Gentle Ben - Morey Lost in the Barrens - Mowat Never Cry Wolf - Mowat Climb or Die - Myers The Call of the Wild - Nordlicht Black Star, Bright Dawn - O'Dell Brian's Winter - Paulen (Need to have read Hatchet first) Dogsong - Paulsen Golden Compass - Pullman On Board the Titanic - Tanaka Banner in the Sky - Ullman Poetry: Cremation of Sam McGee - Service Shooting of Dan McGrew Non-fiction: Buried in Ice - Beattie Snowbound - Lavender (about the Donner party) Woodsong - Paulsen Susan Butcher, Sled Dog Racer - Wadsworth There were also suggestions for newer bios of Matthew Hensen who was on an expedition with Peary. I have not been able to find (in my very brief attempts) the specific names of any books on him. Thank you to all who responded (in no particular order): Fmce@aol.com, Blythe Bennett, Jan Demlow, Charlotte Snyder, Dennis Clarke, Virginia Lake, Laurie Woodfin, Debbie Dodd, and Susan Burstein. If I have missed anyone, I sincerely apoligize.
