From: Sue Norkeliunas <GSN1@MARISTB.MARIST.EDU> and advice. We had so many problems wih CyberPatrol (Internet filter) on our NT network (with Fortres security) that we removed it and many of the problems disappeared. Our questions: 1) Has anyone else had problems with CyberPatrol on your network? We're not sure if problems exist with CyberPatrol itself or the interaction of NT network, Fortres amd CyberPatrol. Please indicate successes, problems or advice. 2) Are any of you at middle school accessing the Internet without a filtering software program using only AUP as permission and exclusion as a consequence of misuse? We are inclined to go in this direction but need your input to back our position. Again please send messages of successes, problems, concerns or advice. I will post a hit if there is enough interest. Mike and Bob will update participants on the Big6 approach to the teaching of information skills, with emphasis on the new technology and their new book, "Helping With Homework." This exciting program is set for Friday, Oct. 31, from 4:30 to 5:45 pm in the Persian Room of the Hotel Syracuse. Mike will offer another outstanding program * Cyberspace Librarians: Beyond Surviving-Thriving* on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 10:00 - 11:15 am in Room 2/3 of the Syracuse ONCenter. SLMS has scheduled six other fine programs throughout the conference including sessions featuring AskERIC and KidsConnect staff, NY Standards and the school library media specialist, designing and leading Internet staff development activities and a live video conference with a Swedish school. To borrow a phrase from the Michelin Guides, we expect our programs to be "*** Worth a Journey!"
