Target: heterogenous vs homogenous grouping

My school is looking for information about heterogenous vs homogenous
grouping - impact on grades, scores, long term effects, etc. I am
especially looking for documentation or published works, statistics, etc.
Any information or suggestions as to where to find this info would be
greatly appreciated!!
