We are getting ready to network our new middle school. It is a Windows NT server - half Mac and Half PC (Windows 95) all new machines. Laser printer in a common room in each of the 4 hallways. Now we know that we need to let teachers each have a private account on the server. (there will be two computers in each classroom) Since we have no network administrator--and will not have this year-- (outside company is setting up the network and will do troubleshooting etc and we can probably work out a support contract with them for the year)--but, we do think that it is just too much maintenance to have each student (350 of them) have an account, password etc. We want to make it as simple as possible for this first year. We are thinking about one "Private" account for a teacher, available only by personal teacher password, and one "Homeroom" account which is accessible by class password into that homeroom account by teacher and students. Then, of course we need some kind of software on each computer so the dears can't get into everything--What is thought to be the best ? (At the old school we used At Ease on the Macs (but it seemed as if Clarisworks could break through at ease). Is there a program out there that will work on both Macs and PC's (windows 95 variety)? not to mention with my Winnebago Spectrum!!(in the process of being set up) yowzah!!! We are interested in hearing from anybody with ideas, suggestions and horror stories. We are also interested in hearing from any vendors out there with suggestions! And then, once this is set up and running, we need to deal with Internet access. . . . .
