TARGET: Internet Surfing

Our high school students will be on the net this year.  I am wondering how
many of you allow students to just come to the library to "surf the net", and
how many of you only allow students to do class assignments or to research on
the net in conjunction with a class they are taking?  (I realize that some
surfing is necessary even when you know what topic you are researching.)  In
our high school the library is used as an extra study hall.  By that I mean
that so many students can check out of study hall each period to come to the
library and don't necessarily have to have research to do.  Because of this
setup I know that there are going to be students who just want to check out of
study hall and come to the library to "play" on the net.  We do have an AUP in
place and the students who have the necessary signatures have been issued a
driver's license.
