TARGET: 3rd Grade Reluctant Reader

I have a 3rd grader (reads at a 4th grade level) who HATES to read and
does so only if forced.  I have been asked to provide his parents a list
of authors or books that may help this child become a reader.  He's
really into science so I have been combing our collection for
appropriate scifi books as well as non-fiction, readable science books.
9000 heads are better than 1 so can I solicit some suggestions?  I'll be
happy to post a hit from the responses.  TIA!  :o)
