Dear LM NET members, I would like your opinions, thoughts, etc. regarding separate vs. combined library media centers for middle and high school students (grades six through twelve). This question has come up with plans for expansion for our district. I have already checked the archives for this information, and found the area that addresses design and planning. We presently have separate middle and high school buildings about six miles apart - each having a library. One of the options that the administration is considering is a new school(middle) that would adjoin the present high school. I was asked if I would prefer one media center for all students using both buidlings grades 6-12, or if the libraries should be separate-one in each building. I am the only certified media specialist for the district. I supervise 2 elementary buildings, a middle school and the high school. Each of the elementaries and the middle school is staffed by a library aide. I would appreciate any thoughts you would have on this matter. Thank you.
