Thanks to everyone who sent e-mail about what to do with old book
covers. Although no one knows of a company that sells new ones, many of
you described successful experiences when students made new ones.

* Many of you work with the Art teacher to have students design new
covers. Some of you have book cover art contests with winners pictures
on the back cover of the book. Lamination is the final step.

* Some of you do this activity with reading teachers as an alternative
to book reports. Students write a summary for the inside flap, design the
cover, then the teachers laminate. Many of you also put a picture and
bio of the student "designer" on the back cover.

* Some of you make color copies or scan in photos from more recent
versions of the book. Students participate in this as well.

Thanks again for all of your suggestions!
