sent to me with the authors, some of these are fantasy.  This is a great

Connie Willis    _Doomsday Book_, set in near future, involves time
travel, bubonic plague, and the connection between the two
_Bellwether_,for a light read, _The Plague Tales_, similar plot as
Doomsday, _To Say Nothing of the Dog_, time travel and her wonderful
sense of humor

James Alan Gardner  _Expendable_ his first, female lead, about a group
of explorers whose job is to make contact on newly discovered planets
