Computer hardware question

Has anyone had to place their computer (CPU with CD rom)
sideways(vertically)  when it was meant to sit horizontally? IF so, have
any problems occurred? Can you still use the CD Rom? I am having problems
with the size of my new computer tables and my computers not fitting
together. This is one of the options to make things work. Your input is
appreciated.
