Greetings,
Bess Internet Filter vs Surf Watch? That is my question. What advise
can you give me?
I am making a presentation to my district administrators about the
Bess Internet proxy filter. We have been using Bess since Sept., but
without a server at our site. (We receive internet via a a local ISP
and an Instant Internet box which carries the signal to the entire
school network) With Bess all of our internet traffic is routed through
the Seattle N2H2 server for filtering and then back to us. This has
made our Internet service is very very slow! My technical support
contractor wants to get rid of Bess in favor of Surf Watch loaded at
each station. He has already done this in the computer lab but not in
the library where I have 18 stations and yes, internet is now
appreciably faster in the lab. I don’t feel that Surf Watch works as
well as Bess plus it will require someone - probably me- to do the
regular updating. Is there anyone who has Bess with the local server
that can advise me about speed, the product, working with N2H2. How
about Surf Watch users? Who does the periodic updating? Is it a good
product? What is the cost per station or a site license? Any advice you
can give me will help me clarify issues in my own mind and will
demonstrate good research for my presentation.
