LM_NET Community & Colombian help

Hello Group,

I have two messages here. One is a report on the friend/brother-in-law's
cousin, Don Cary, who was kidnapped in Colombia. The family has finally
heard from the kidnappers. They are demanding a 2 million dollar ransom.
At this point, I don't know more than that. At least the family knows he
is alive. Thanks to several people here on LM_NET, the family had
several telephone numbers and contacts as a place to start. This group
(LM_NET) is just AMAZING! Thanks to all who sent messages of concern and
suggestions for help as well as saying that they and their
churches/families were/are praying for him.

The second message is about a book that I am reading: _Release 2.0: A
design for living in the digital age_ by Esther Dyson (New York:
Broadway Books, 1997). It describes OUR LM_NET community -- not in name,
but how we have developed friendships and concern for each other. The
author describes the social implications of the internet now and in the
future. It's quite readable and enlightening. One quote in the
introduction "Like the American frontier of old, the Internet is being
built by its members"(p.1) begins a very interesting discussion of how
the internet works SOCIALLY as well as economically (I think the author
is an economics/marketing major). Her "goal is to pass on a little of
[her] sense of richness and potential of the Net."(p. 2)

I'm not related to the author or anything....it was recommended to me
because of my interest in the internet. I strongly recommend ANYONE who
uses the internet to read it. As a matter of fact, it would be a GREAT
reading/discussion book for computer classes (high school and college
level) who are using the internet.
