Book Title

Dear LM_Netters,
        One of the teachers in my elementary building mentioned a book he loved as
a child and has not been able to find since.  I hope you can help me figure
our the title for sure, and whether or not you've seen a copy.
        The story began with a tree falling over onto a family of panthers.  The
only one that survived was a white panther.  The rest of the story deals
with the panthers life.  He is not sure, but understandably thought the
title was The White Panther.  Anyway, I told him I would ask you people for
help.
