At least at the high school level, my feeling about a love for books and
working in a school library is that it is a lot like Cyrano and
Roxanne...you get to be close to the object(s) of your desire, but you never
get to do anything about it!  Keeping up with YA lit and reader's advisory
service is ALWAYS pushed back under the press of keeping up with curriculum
support and keeping a line on the 200 or so kids who drop in independently
of their classes. I now realize why public librarians dominate the YA review
circuit, and why we, who should be more promenently involved in this area,
just don't have the time...
