I know that many of you have undergone renovations and I would like
to ask your advice.

My district is considering possible expansion/renovation of my K-6
library, which has approximately 8,000 volumes. An architect (not
me!) has decided that the library should be expanded to include a
computer lab, writing lab (essentially an additional computer lab),
multi media production center, and video editing. While I would like
to be in close proximity to the computer & writing labs, I feel that
having them as part of the library would make it impossible for me to
conduct my scheduled library classes (I see each class once or twice
a week on a regular schedule).

Another suggestion by the architect is to have a loft area, where
students could go to read. My questions to you are:

1) What is your experience with lofts, especially regarding
supervision and noise level?

2) What is your experience with including computer labs in elementary
libraries with regularly scheduled classes?

Please reply to me directly. TIA
Thanks,
Anne Clark
