I'm the librarian in a poor urban area. I do not collect fines for overdues, I rarely get paid for lost books. However, I have told the children they can pay me for overdues in CAMPBELL SOUP LABELS. This works very well. The kids feel like it is money & they've earned it because they had to peel it off the can. It's money to me too because I then use them to purchase equipment through the Labels for Education program Campbell's has. If I do get money, it certainly goes into MY budget. I'm in a large district and the librarian supervisor wouldn't have it any other way. If you collected labels it could be a creative way to circumvent your money going elsewhere! This posting is a little late because it was originally rejected.
