A 6th grade health teacher and I created a research lesson on smoking. We pre-searched for good Net sites, magazine citations, and encyclopedia articles. All the Net sources were text, and of excellent quality and reading level. Students had to read and understand from every source. We actually had students wanting to use magazine articles from InfoTrac, more encycs., and NF books than expected. Reflecting on the experience, I think that happened because we structured the Net usage so that time was not wasted in surfing. (which is really what the aimless desire to do!) You can see the online lesson at our Monticello site, which is linked from mine. The second group of 150 6th graders are starting the lesson on Monday. -- Joan Enders Library Media Specialist “All the fun is in the middle if Monticello Middle School you are there!” Longview WA 98632 mailto:jenders@kalama.com http://www.teleport.com/~lps/LMCHpg/lmcindex.html =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= To quit LM_NET (or set NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send an email message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER: 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST * NOTE: Please allow time for confirmation from Listserv.
