My brother's keeper by Nancy Johnson This is a thoughtful story of the Civil War based on actual letters from a decendent of the author. Two young brothers leave Rochester to go off to war. While there is much discussion of what happens in war, it is not an action adventure. The experiences the boy goes through and writes about gave me a personal feeling for the many brave souls in that war. The books starts to moralize about war at the end but it is in keeping with the feeling of the whole book. The book is 130 pages but because of the lack of "action" and the thoughtful nature of the book I would only give it to certain students who will thoroughly enjoy it. *** Frederick Muller fmuller@planet.net Halsted Middle School Library (973) 383-7440 ext.228 59 Halsted Street FAX (973) 383-7432 Newton, NJ 07860 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= To quit LM_NET (or set NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send an email message to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER: 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST * NOTE: Please allow time for confirmation from Listserv.
