Welllllllll ... I have not read the article, but I did recently get a
digital camera (a Toshiba ... a little bitty thing with 640x480 resolution
that was included at no extra charge when I bought a laptop at CompUSA --
what a DEAL!). The camera beats the heck out of scanning photos taken with
a regular camera, at least on the quality of scanner I could afford. True,
the image quality may not be quite as good (though it is not at all clear to
me that, all in all, it is NOT as good in the end), BUT I can connect the
camera to the laptop in seconds, copy the photos over to the computer, also
in seconds, and view and edit immediately -- no cost of film or processing,
no delay, no hassle with scanning. This is perfect for photos I want to use
online or to illustrate reports I write. Will the digital camera completely
replace "real photography" for me? No, but it will still be VERY helpful.
To my amazement, it even takes decent (entirely adequate for my purposes)
pictures indoors (in good lignt) without a flash.
