I just had an urgent call from a district Curriculum director. There have
been a few objections to two of Matthew Gollub's books. They are being
challenged as inappropriate for primary and he has been asked to remove
them from the library so K-3 students will not have access (this is a K-6
school).

The books: The Twenty-five Mixtec Cats
        Uncle Snake

I suggested they be placed in nonfiction in 398's where primary students
would be less likely to browse. (These books are Mexican floklore.) He
thought that was a good idea, but also wanted reviews and positive ideas
for their use. He does have a committee and is going through a proper
process, but his district librarian is out on personal leave (family
emergency) and he asked me for help.

Their next committee meeting is this Thursday (day after tomorrow!).
Thanks for any help you can give me.
