I need quick responses!
We are in the "talking" stages of planning a new high school. My Tech. =
Director is meeting with the architects in two days and has asked me to =
come up with ideas of how I want the technology portion of the new =
library. I had planned on trying to visit some of the premier libraries =
around the state before I had to address that important issue. However, =
I do want to take advantage of this opportunity to have input into the =
planning of the new library facility. =20

If you have a wonderful library or if you know of one that has a great =
tech. layout, please let me know. I would like a description (as =
detailed as possible), and any comments or suggestions (both positive =
and negative) about your library tech. situation. =20

Experience is the best teacher, so I want to learn from your experience =
in planning and reaping the benifits of the finished product. Please =
address some of these subjects:

types of lines used (T-1, fiber-optics, etc.)
special wiring needs
types of computers
# of computers & computer workstations (OPACS, Internet Access, etc.)
location of workstations (near lib. office, away from reading area, =
close to=20
        reference....)
location of circulation desk
networked computers
location of file servers
CD-ROM tower
stand-up or sit-down access to computers
anything else you can think of

I would appreciate any information on building a new facility, but must =
have the tech. info. immediately.

If you have a diagram or floor plan, etc., that you could fax to me, let =
me know and I'll give you a fax number.

This is my first time to contact the LM_NET users. I hope to get some =
great ideas! Thank you in advance for your quick responses!

Brenda McManus, Librarian
Barbers Hill High School
Mont Belvieu, TX
