I remember reading in the archives about teachers/librarians writing questions to go with the AR program. Can anyone tell me how this is done? I'm going into an elementary school which is using AR in a very competitive way. It is my understanding that students are not allowed to check out any books which are not AR (and in their ZPD range). This was decided by the teachers and the Reading Renaissance Committee. This applies even after they've met their "goal" points. This eliminates a lot of the non-fiction books from consideration because we don't have tests to go with them. I'm against restricting what children choose to read anymore than absolutely necessary and would like to encourage the use of ALL the books in the media center. I've also heard some complaints from parents and teachers that sometimes the AR questions are too "nit picky". Being able to write tests to go with some of these books seems like a good solution to these problems. Any suggestions? June Hardison, Media Coordinator Fred A.
