We just purchased Microsoft Works 4.0, and I am attempting to do an adminstrative install to the server so that I can then install to the individual stations across the network. I just did this with Office 97, but I keep getting an error, "this volume does not support long file names". Our server is running Novell 3.11. Using the /a parameter for setup should take care of that problem, but it simply does not allow me to go further. Using the /f parameter for converting to short file names also does not work. Microsoft's web site has tech information, and that indicates using the /a. My suspicion is that my CD may be faulty and not have the support or program or whatever for the adminstrative (/a) setup program. Has anyone else been able to do the adminstrative install? As I said, it worked perfectly with Office 97. Microsoft Tech. Support was not able to give me an answer--the support person did not seem familiar with administrative installs or Novell. He just kept telling me that it was due to the non support of long file names on my server. TIA Anne Anne C. Oelke Library Media Specialist Cambria-Friesland School District Cambria, WI.
