Thanks for the many suggestions for books a principal can read to kids in grades K - 5. I will check out the titles I am not familiar with. Thanks go to the following people for their help: Linda Slacum, Dale Copps, Marti Anderson, Ira Tobak, Barb Ehlers, Cynthia Cassidy, Jody Newman, Mary J. Konieczka, Georgia Richards, Irene Sprick, Linda Pennison, Kathleen M. Walsh. Here is the list of suggestions: Soap, Soap, Don't Forget the Soap. It is an Appliachian folktale with lots of repetition....the little kids will love it. Check: http://www.wcsu.k12.vt.us/~wardsboro/lists.htm#Readership for some ideas already gathered by LM_NETters. A quick search at Amazon.com, and found these titles in addition to the ones you mentioned: _Fabulous Principal Pie_ by Jim and Joan Hoffman [ages 4-8] _The Jellybean Principal_ by Catherine McMorrow, illus. by Amy Wummer [ages 4-8] _Don't Go to the Principal's Office_ by M. T. Coffin [ages 9-12] _My Mom Married the Principal_ by Margaret E. Bechard [ages 9-12] _Will the Real Ms X Please Report to the Principal_ by Shirley Black [ages 9-12] Emily's Antlers How about one of the Cormier short stories or even one of Poe's works. Thomas' Snowsuit There's also a Louis Sachar book, I believe, about being sent to the principal's office. A delightful book by Dav Pilkey called The Adventures of Captain Underpants You might want to have your principal look at the poem books of Kalli Dakos. Have you looked at the new Seuss about "Diffendoofer School". For older students I like the Sideways school stories by Louis Sachar, or I think Tood Strasser may have done a story like the Help! I'm in my teacher's body ones. My principal likes to read "The Cut Ups" by Marshall to the first or second graders -- **~|~**~|~**~|~**~|~**~|~**~|~**~|~** Cathy Rae, Library Media Specialist Harry S Truman Elementary School 1400 Gaskill Ave. Allentown, PA 18103 crae@ptdprolog.net crae@stsd.org =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-= To quit LM_NET (or set-reset NOMAIL or DIGEST), Send email to listserv@listserv.syr.edu In the message write EITHER: 1) SIGNOFF LM_NET 2) SET LM_NET NOMAIL or 3) SET LM_NET DIGEST 3) SET LM_NET MAIL * Please allow for confirmation from Listserv For LM_NET Help & Archives see: http://ericir.syr.edu/lm_net/ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=
