TARGET: Author/Illustrators N.Y/N.J. area

Hi!  Hope everyone is having a great summer!

Wondered if I could get some suggestions from those of you who have hosted
elementary level author/illustrators at your schools.  Traditionally, our
school
has invited an author each year.  It's great fun, lots of planning &
preparation,
but well worth the effort. In the two years I've been in this position, we've
had
Trinka Hakes Noble & Elizabeth Levy, both of whom were excellent.  Past
authors  include  Rob Blake, Pat Brisson, Amy Schwartz, Nancy Evans Cooney, &
Douglas Florian.

This year I thought it would be neat to have some one who illustrates &
writes,
preferably a male since we have had females a number of years in a row.  The
author/illustrator ideally would be in the N.Y./N.J./Conn./Pa. area, in the
interest of commuting time & expense.  Does anyone have a recommendation?
I have thought of Jose Aruego as a possibility.  I know he's an excellent
presenter.
Also, a faculty member suggested Bernard Waber.  Does anyone know how to get
in touch with him or have any experience with him re. author visits?
