ELEM: more poetry in the library ideas...

Summer almost Sept! greetings!  Am doing my yearly brainstorming and
thinking of my April poetry unit and some of the responses I got...
I'm deciding to incorporate poetry into as much as I can during the
year (without going nuts some I;m doing it NOW) so that poetry doesn't
have that different stigma attached to it.  I had such a great
response from k and 1 with my mr. manners 'cube' last year that Im
going to make poetry cubes this Summer for use all year.  Themeatic
cubes made of foamcore board (colored if I could afford it!)  Ex.
Pick your favorite 6 weather poems for little kids and print them with
a nice paint marker or black thick sharpie or identical squares 6 or 8
inches square of foamcore. hot glue gun the thing into a cube.  I use
fabric reinforcement colored tape on the edges.  Then the kids could
roll their own poem - for me or them - to read. I'll have my older
classes -(maybe3rd or 5th) make some variation of it. have fun!
