Thanks to all of you who responded to my query.  Everyone said to go
into options and then preferences.
I had tried this before I posted the message.
A colleague and I figured it out.  I had to go into the hard drive
and trash what was saved in  cache f.
In it I found all gif pictures that the students saved.  I am using
Netscape Communicator 4.0
I hope this helps anyone else who has this problem.
