GEN: Budget new middle school

Hi everyone -
I need more advice!  My principal just told me that my budget proposal
is due in 2 weeks.  YIKES.
This is my first job, it's a new middle school for about 500 students in
a rural area.  Right now I have about 3,000 books and I started out with
about 40,000 for the core collection.
I have no idea what sort of sum to ask for or propose for next year, but
I know that this will probably set a precedent for future years.  Of
course I would love to ask for 1.5 million - but I'm trying to be
reasonable.  If anyone has any suggestions, can tell me what you
typically get to spend, or can tell me of any books to look through for
advice, I'd appreciate it!  Thanks.
