Ah, but this could be an opportunity! To actually have the classes to
call your own! To have regular and plentiful time to work with them!

The first thing I'd do is take a good look-see at their regular
curriculum and see where I could plug in, at standards and
benchmarks. Then I re-read Jamie McKenzie's article:

The New Plagiarism: Seven Antidotes to Prevent Highway Robbery in an
Electronic Age by Jamie McKenzie
http://www.fromnowon.org/may98/cov98may.html

Not so much for the info on plagiarism but for the nice example
of different kinds of research. It's also time to pull out the
BIG 6.

I'd develop a multi-level research project (literature based
for starters) that supported and integrated with regular classroom
instruction/curriculum and incorporated those "library skills" that we find
necessary (but moved beyond that isolationist approach).

If I had technology available, I'd also have the children
move beyond the written report to learning how to communicate
knowledge and information effectively in digital formats.

Time is another issue... And I'm no whiz kid (old lady?) who will
solve that problem. That's for sure. But I surely would
love to have some students for more than 40 minutes a week
now and then. There are possibilities.
