puzzlemaker problems

     Hi folks -
     I learned of the puzzlemaker site through this listserv and my
     teachers love it.  Unfortunately, there has been a recent "upgrade"
     which has rendered it unusable.  It now generates *.png files instead
     of *.gif and neither of my browsers (IE 4.0 and Netscape 4.5) will
     recognize the file type.  The webmaster of puzzlemaker has an
     explanation of why he made the change and addresses the fact that
     there are bugs, but his suggestions didn't work.  Have any of you made
     it work recently?  Any help is much appreciated.
